EDITOR'S NOTE
Dear devotees, friends and well-wishers,
Receive our humble obeisances,
All glory to Srila Prabhupada!
In front of you is the 17th issue of the Nova Jaladute newsletter.
We remind you that if you have content that you consider worth publishing in any of the following newsletters, feel free to contact our secretary, bhn. Irena to the e-mail address: zagreb.iskcon@gmail.com.
At the same address you can find out all the information related to the temple.
First day of November marked the first day of the month of Karttika. In that month, Vaisnavas around the world especially remember Krsna as Lord Damodara, make vows to increase the intensity of devotional service, offer lamps to the Lord, and sing a special song - Damodarastaka - which celebrates Krsna's Vrndavana boys' pastimes.
Every day, morning and evening, all visitors to the temple had the opportunity to offer a lamp and sing Damodarastaka.
On two occasions (two weekends), participants in the first part of the Bhakti-sastri course from Nekatar Devotion, listened to the second part of the course. As for the first time, the leader was Mahajvala das.
Due to increasingly stringent measures on the eve of the corona virus pandemic, some participants attended the course online.
The devotees showed great interest and there were 23 participants.
The third part is coming soon.
Despite many challenges regarding the epidemiological situation, two festivals - Govardhana-puja and Diwali - were marked on the same day.
The occasional lecture was given by Suvarna-bindu das.
The Ambassador of India, His Excellency Raj Kumar Srivastava, accompanied by his wife, also honored us with his presence.
The highlight of the evening was marked by the distribution of 18 Bhagavad-gita as part of the newly heated 'Live to give' campaign, which, we remind you, aims to distribute 2,000,000 Bhagavad-gita worldwide. We have pledged to share 1,000. By the grace of Sri Sri Gaur Nitai we are moving towards that goal!
Parents and children, students of the Gopal-guru school, went on a day trip to see the city of Zagreb. Krsna-kanta das led a merry expedition, and in the end they found refreshment after a full day of adventure in the restaurant 'Joyful kitchen'.
On the first day of Karttika, after a long battle with the disease, our dear Sunandana das left us - a longtime member of our community, who together with his whole family served steadily and devotedly in various areas of Prabhupada's mission. He cooked, maintained and arranged the temple, organized festivals and camps, cared for the Deities and everything that was needed.
Just before the departure of Sunandan das, he spent a few days in the temple with his son Pandava-seva das, where he kept a rather cheerful mood with his presence. He made everyone around him laugh by telling stories about various incidents with devotees. In those moments, he spoke especially about the importance of sadhu-sanga, that is, associating with holy persons (devotees) and avoiding insults. The power of his message was thus stronger as he was left with only a few moments of this bodily life.
The Krsna lounge for young people, as always, attracted an enthusiastic young audience, eager to socialize with their peers, especially in these moments of great restrictions. This month, two such gatherings were held.
In front of the communications department of LVV, Govindananda das, together with bhakta Matko, appeared on Television West, in the show 'Željko Marušić and guests'.
You can watch a clip from the show here:
Again, despite the challenges of epidemiological measures, another major and one of the most important festivals on the Vaishnava calendar was held - Srila Prabhupada tirobhava mahotsava - the day of Srila Prabhupada’s departure. The lecture was given by Markandeya-rsi das.
Ten days before the start of the book distribution marathon, the temple team began to warm up to enter the marathon in full readiness in December. That venture yielded great results.
As in October, due to health obstacles and other protracted circumstances, sankirtan "suffered", this month sankirtan "came to life".
The temple devotees distributed 460 books, of which 120 were Bhagavad-gita! Note, 900 Maha mantra cards were also distributed!
Jay sankirtan!
We continue to distribute ahimsa milk and cheeses from the Divya-prabandha das farm and his family. Products can be picked up once a week, mostly on Sundays at the temple (or some other location, which we will inform you about later).
For milk, you need to bring your own packaging.
Also, in addition to dairy products, other products (cereals and vegetables) are available, and you can find out more on the phone number: 091 / 349-2470 (Divya-prabandha das).
For all other information, please contact the temple devotees.
In front of the communications department, Govindananda das and Isvara-puri das, they visited the Embassy of India, where they arranged joint activities in 2021.
This month saw the start of a very active 'Food for Life' program, led by its president, Mataji Ljerka and other enthusiasts.
They distributed 1000 biscuits this month, both through harinam and through sankirtan devotees “door to door”!
Adapted to the current needs and possibilities of the devotee, the schedule of Sunday programs, until further notice, will be as follows:
- 18:00 Bhajans
- 18:20 Lecture
- 18:40 Questions and answers
